First announced last April, Facebook are beginning to roll out a new design to desktop users in the form of a beta test.
The social media giant, who boasts over 2.4 billion active users each month has begun to invite users to test the new layout before the official roll-out, expected to be sometime early Spring of this year.
A ‘small percentage’ of users will be invited to try out the new layout, which allows users to set their site to use white backgrounds and bright colours, or asimilar to the popular features offered on computers, iPhones and devices powered by Google’s Android software.
If you are one of the lucky ones to be selected, you will receive a pop-up inviting you to test the ‘New Facebook’ as they refer to it. If you decide you don’t wish to continue to use it and want to switch back to the design you are used to, then the option is there, as is the option to switch back into beta-mode.
Facebook is hoping that the new layout will help the business and its users move on from a turbulent 2019 which has seen the company come under fire due to privacy concerns and ‘corporate malfeasance’.
The new layout will move the desktop site more in line with the design already seen on the mobile app rolled out earlier in 2019. Traditionally, new layouts receive generally negative comments from users experiencing it for the first time so it will be interesting to see how well this will be received.
